About SDP

Self‑Determination Program (SDP)

The Self‑Determination Program is a statewide initiative that gives people with developmental disabilities more control over the services they receive. Instead of relying solely on the traditional regional center model, participants develop an individualized spending plan and decide who provides their supports, allowing for greater flexibility and self‑direction. The program is built on five core principles—freedom, authority, support, responsibility and confirmation which empower individuals to plan their own lives, decide how their funds are spent, choose their support network, accept responsibility for decisions, and ensure that their voice is central to all planning.
